Education for Struggle. The one-sided class war against workers must be stopped. America's workers are under relentless attack - today's labor movement is on the defensive. We need a renewed commitment to roll back this assault including a strategic approach to worker education and engagement. In the 1920s and the early 1930s, the U.S. working class faced similarly desperate times. Unconventional schools and training models emerged to provide “education for struggle,” and soon a new generation of worker-activists were better prepared to lead the great upsurge of that period. Dec 19, 2006 Release of persecuted Iranian trade unionist welcomed.
Brussels, 19 December 2006 (ITUC Online): The ITUC and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) today welcomed the release of detained Iranian trade unionist Mansour Osanloo, while deploring the fact that he had to post additional bail to ensure his release. Osanloo was already on bail of 150 million Toman (US$ 165,000), stemming from his previous detention by the authorities from 22 December 2005 to 9 August 2006.
"We are pleased that Mansour Osanloo is now out of detention, but the additional bail condition, and the fact that leaders and members of his union continue to face systematic repression and harassment, are of deep concern", said ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder.

Nov 25, 2006   Free Mansour Osanloo now.
Mansour Osanloo, the President of the Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (Sherkat-e Vahed) was arrested by plain clothes agents, who refused to show any identification or arrest warrants, on Sunday, November 19, 2006 while he, along with two other union board members, were on their way to the office of the Labour Ministry in Tehran East. The agents physically and verbally assaulted Osanloo and Ebrahim Madadi, the union's vice-president, and one of them pointed a gun at Mr. Madadi and fired a bullet in the air. The agents finally forced Mr. Osanloo into a waiting car and drove away.
