On March 9, 2022, the world lost a great mind as the renowned author, literary critic, professor, and Marxist Aijaz Ahmad passed away at the age of 81. Throughout his life, Aijaz closely studied right-wing politics, chronicled the wave of imperialist assaults worldwide, and stood firm on his conviction in the Marxist method. Besides in India, Aijaz taught in North America for many years, including for an extended period as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Politics at York University, Toronto.
He wrote countless essays and books, such as In Theory: Nations, Classes, Literatures, Nothing Human is Alien to Me, among others.
He has published widely in the Socialist Register, including: “Extreme Capitalism and the National Question”; “India: Liberal Democracy and the Extreme Right”; “Imperialism of Our Time”; “Post Colonial Theory and the ‘Post’ Condition,” “Islam, Islamisms and the West” (see video).
