Green Jobs Oshawa, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Signs of Life, and the School for Climate have collaborated to bring a ‘Just Transitions’ themed mural to the heart of Oshawa, Ontario. The mural was created and brought to life by renowned muralist Bruno Smoky with the help and support of Chad Tyson. It represents a vision of what a just transition could look like in Oshawa.
In their press release, the mural partners stated that they believe it’s time for Art and Artists to play the instrumental role that they always play during pivotal times in history. It’s time to share the future that is possible. The Canada we had must be eclipsed by the vision of the Canada we have all hoped for. It is only our bold collective action that will bring this vision to reality.
Green Jobs Oshawa, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Signs of Life, and the School for Climate also recognize the important contribution that the following sponsors made to the success of the mural; The Local 222 Retired Workers Chapter, CUPE Ontario, The Council of Canadians, Center for Social Justice, and the Durham Northumberland CUPE District Council.
The following panel discussion organized by the School for Climate was recorded online July 26, 2021. It features Seth Klein (Climate Emergency Unit), Rebecca Keetch (Green Jobs Oshawa), Derek Richmond (Canadian Union of Postal Workers), Chad Tyson (Signs of Life Mural Project), Bruno Smoky (Visual Artist), Aliénor (Allie) Rougeot (Fridays for Future Toronto), and Andre Forsythe (School for Climate).
We hope you enjoy this presentation as the panelists explore the mural and what a just transition means to them.
