Kazuo Shii is the chairman of the Japanese Communist Party and served as its secretary-general for over twenty years. A member of the Japanese parliament from 1993 to 2026, he has been one of the leading figures of the Japanese left for many decades and continues to influence contemporary political discourse. The author of numerous books, his most recent publications include Communism and Freedom (2024), Das Kapital is Interesting Now (2025), and Free Time and “The Capital” (2026).
