A tourist can be forgiven for thinking this is from a volcano, of which there are many in Mexico. But it isn’t. It’s the combustion gases from the stacks of two large thermal-electric generating plants, almost hidden behind the hills, and depending upon wind direction, they give an unpleasant yellow hue to the air above this community which promotes itself as the “Mexican Riviera.”
