SUMMARY:A Classic Palestinian Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Leo Panitch School for Socialist Education and the Socialist Project proudly present Fertile Memory as the next movie shown in our ongoing FilmSocial series. \nAs a way to shine a light on the current tragedies occurring in Palestine and to explore the history of the decades long occupation we have chosen to screen Fertile Memory. Fertile Memory is the feature debut by Michel Khleifi and the first full length film shot within the occupied West Bank “Green Line”. \nIn Fertile Memory\, Michel Khleifi expertly blends both documentary and dramatic narrative. Released in 1981 and set against the backdrop of Israeli occupation in the West Bank\, the film explores the lives of two Palestinian women: Farah\, an aging factory worker\, and Sahar\, a middle class writer. They live quite different lives\, but both women are deeply affected by the oppressive Israeli regime and the patriarchal society they live in. \nFollowing the film\, there will be an open discussion on the broader context of the film and some of the key questions raised by it. \nRegister at tickettailor to save your seat.
