No one is unaware that when it comes to the climate catastrophe, we are in it. The current events – wildfires, floods and droughts – were predicted decades ago. Many of us have been organizing to prevent further destruction; some are feeling frustrated.
But then, we look at the young people challenging governments in Canada and abroad. We see the effect organizing has already had in forcing the Ontario government to take a step back in the Caledon Greenbelt parcel. Groups all through southern Ontario are fighting back.
We cannot prevent the increase in temperature and subsequent effects unless we end our dependence on fossil fuels.
The global march to end fossil fuels takes place in New York followed by the September 18-19 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals summit.
